Alternative Campus Mapping (ACM) with Artists 4 Israel leads pro-Israel and Jewish students to create a more contemporary and accurate survey of the power structures, student leaders and non-traditional influencers that shape campus opinion and who, with proper stewardship, can become the most important allies in the fight for Israel sovereignty and Jewish safety.
The Challenge and the Opportunity
Currently, pro-Israel and Jewish students rely on “campus mapping” for multiple purposes including but not limited to: determining the best potential partners and allies to help push their goals, determining which students to bring on sponsored trips to Israel, determining power and influence structures on campus, and, in total, how best to utilize limited resources to create pro-Israel perception and enhance Jewish safety. It is a cultural metric based on student demographics and power structures. The strategies and standards for campus mapping are nearly universal across all organizations and campuses. But, are they accurate?
Traditional campus mapping initiatives might be flawed. We believe their universality might be a negative in the face of campus diversity. We suspect that they may be based on outdated notions established by those outside of the campus space and have not been updated to meet the new realities of student interactivity, student types nor student relationship with organizational groups.
Survey, Best Practices and Teaching Tour
A thorough review and survey of campus mapping procedures, accompanied by a new Best Practices document and teaching tour spearheaded by Artists 4 Israel, an organization with a proven history of speaking to diverse audiences and creating alliances between Jewish/pro-Israel and formerly untouched campus demographics.
The “Per Cost” Consideration and Multiplier Effect
As the survey and its resultant teachings will impact the work of many campus-based organizations (as well as some outside that space), the multiplier effect has exponential possibility.
Our Unique Ability
Artists 4 Israel focuses on niche markets, particularly newly influential communities and demographics not otherwise addressed within our field. We have done our own mapping for years and want to help our campus partners succeed. Of all those on campus, we not only recognize but can speak the language of the very people they seek to map allowing us on even the most basic level to move across that map, from point to point, more effectively.
An Example
Some groups we will explore in our research: cross group connectors, leaders without titles, super-influencers, catalyzers, political action organizers, and unofficial student organizations.
Thank you for your consideration.
