Artist Spotlight: JUURI

In a world full of chaos, JUURI’s art is a way for her to find “home”.

According to Julie Robertson – who goes by the name JUURI – home “is a timeless place unaffected by current events, trends and noise. It is the solace found in a surreal enveloping of plants and flowers, traditional Japanese pattern, vibrant color, and unexpected courage.”

That same courage would lead JUURI to join the Artists 4 Israel (A4I) family. A Tokyo-born fine artist and muralist, it is not always easy for her to find a connection to Israel. Hearing about A4I’s work from other artists and seeing the beauty of what they create, JUURI took a chance and traveled with A4I to the world’s only Jewish State in 2018. Support sending artists to Israel.

So inspired, she curated her own A4I mission in 2019. She even joined Artists 4 Israel at AIPAC this year, sharing her story as a non-Jewish, minority artist and how we transformed her nerves and ambivalence into support and advocacy.

Her vibrant, figure-driven work fuses traditional Japanese and modern pop motifs. In 2019, JUURI painted a 30 by 40 foot mural of Jewish poet Hannah Senesh in San Diego. This work was done as part of a all woman art project and Juuri’s mission is to represent Israel every opportunity she has.
