Massive Budapest Mural Fights Anti-Semitism
Artists 4 Israel Mission to Budapest Combats Anti-Semitism and Commemorates Hannah Szenes
My God, My God, I pray that these things never end,The sand and the sea,
The rustle of the waters,
Lightning of the Heavens,
The prayer of Man.
-Poems, By Hannah Szenes
Los Angeles, CA: Feb. 15, 2021 – What do the bustling streets of Israel and Hungary have in common? Soon, both will be home to striking murals created by Artists 4 Israel; telling the history of Hannah Szenes, famous Zionist heroine and poet.
Budapest, Hungary, once a friend to the Jewish people, has fallen ill to the plague of rising anti-Semitism across Europe. Artists 4 Israel needs your help to complete its latest mission: stopping Jew hatred in Hungary.
The giant mural will be painted by well-known Hungarian artist “Taker One”. Taker has long been a part of Artists 4 Israel’s missions to paint bomb shelters in Sderot and the rest of the communities on the border of Gaza. While there, he fell in love with the Jewish people; their resilience, passion and empathy. That’s why he’s asked to be the one to paint this installation of Hannah Szenes in their honor and in opposition to anti-Semitism of all forms.
The venue, an eleven story tall residential building that sits across one of Budapests’ busiest subway stations is also located on a heavily trafficked road to and from Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport.
As tens of thousands pass everyday, they can’t help but be influenced by its message:
“Hannah Szenes: Hungarian. Jewish. Zionist. Poet. Warrior. Combat Anti-Semitism!”
It is a clear reminder to the people of Hungary of their shared history with the State of Israel and the Jewish People.
What can you do to help? Reconnect with the incredible Zionist story of Hannah Szenes by joining Artists 4 Israel for a heart-warming global tour of Artists 4 Israel's greatest international murals on Wednesday, February 24 at 4:00 PM PT/7:00 PM ET.
